Principals
Gary Maynard graduated from Brown University, Phi Beta Kappa, in 1985, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Linguistics, of all things. Within two years, he had established G. S. Maynard & Co., Inc., also known as Five Corners Shipyard, in Vineyard Haven. Over the next 12 years, he and his crew restored historic wooden vessels, ranging from an 8-foot Bahama Dinghy up to the 90-foot Pilot Schooner Alabama, now sailing out of Vineyard Haven Harbor. His restorations have been widely recognized by such institutions as Mystic Seaport Museum and have been featured in WoodenBoat Magazine, and have won multiple awards at prestigious wooden boat shows around the country.
In 1997, Gary closed down the Shipyard, sold his machinery and took his growing family on a sailing adventure aboard his own restored vessel, the 1911 Scots Zulu Violet. He and Kristi, his wife and business partner, and their two small children voyaged through the Caribbean Sea, the Panama Canal, and on to the South Pacific, Hawaii, and even as far north as Glacier Bay, Alaska.
On his return in 1999, Gary decided to continue in the fine woodworking field, and soon established Holmes Hole Builders, LLC with a crew of former shipwrights and experienced house carpenters. By tackling challenging projects on tight schedules and fixed prices, Holmes Hole Builders quickly became the go-to contractor on the Vineyard.
In addition to being a lifelong sailor, Gary is also an aspiring writer, a gentleman farmer and a proud father.
KRISTINA MAYNARD
Kristina Maynard directs our Property Management department, helps out in the office, and generally keeps things lively and interesting wherever she is. Although she was born over in America, Kristi is a true islander, having lived on the Vineyard for most of her life. She seems to know everyone on the island, if not by name or by sight, then she knows their kids or their parents or their friends, so she serves as our firewall for job applicants.
Kristi is active in the horse community here on the Vineyard, she’s nuts for tennis and she’s a darn good sailor. But most of all, she’s a mother of two teenagers, without doubt her most challenging job.
